The pulmonary department was set up in 1994 when the hospital was founded. It was set up by experts from LomaLindaUniversity in America according to international standards. Now it¡¯s a member of the Respiratory Research Institute of Zhejiang University -- the key academic discipline of Zhejiang Health Bureau ¨C and is financed by the key academic discipline of Zhejiang Chinese Traditional Medicine Bureau.

At present, besides good management of COPD, respiratory infection, lung cancer, asthma, OSAS medical care, etc, our staff provides various diagnostic and therapeutic skills via bronchofibroscopy, such as tracheal tumor ablation and excision, stent implantation, and whole lung lavage. We have well trained ICU staff and the only respiratory therapy department in China.

We have researched various fields and have directed and/or attended several nationally financed research projects, such as those of the National Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science. Other funds we receive are from the State Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Health, State Health Bureau etc. We have been awarded six times by the state or the health bureau for our excellent research work. More than sixty articles have been published in first-level core journals. Our research focuses on the molecular biology monitoring of early stage lung cancer, the molecular biology basis for early diagnosis of lung cancer, expired gas detection for lung cancer screening, management of pulmonary thromboembolism, the molecular biology basis of deep venous thrombosis in cancer patients, the correlation between OSAS and other diseases, OSAS medical cares, mechanical ventilation support in ventilation associated pneumonia, ARDS, respiratory failure, septic shock and multiple organ failure patients.

Overseas academic exchanges have been conducted with many countries such as the US and Germany. Several medical students visit from Australia, Germany and America, and have appreciated their acquisitions here. Our faculty is in charge of educational respiratory curriculums at ZhejiangUniversity and internships or resident trainings. Our department also manages a national continuing medical education(CME) program on respiratory care.
