This is a young and vigorous department initially established in 2000. This department has combined basic research with clinical practices that keeps Quality of Life issues foremost, when planning surgical procedures with patients and their families. Minimally- invasive techniques have been developed for radical surgery, in the quest for a high rate of cure while at the same time preserving the dignity and personal body image of the patient. This is particularly emphasized in the gastrointestinal and breast cancer patients. Our goal is not only to cure the disease but also to allow the patient an early resumption of the activities of daily living. The latest techniques in adjuvant chemotherapy and intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapyprograms are also in keepingwith international standards of care.
