The department of neurology at SRRSH opened in 1994. In those early days of the hospital there were only three doctors and they had to overcome many difficulties as they developed the department. With their hard work they were able to see 1566 outpatients and 157 inpatients in that first year. Every year patient numbers have increased and 10 years after opening they were seeing ten times the number seen that first year. Over these years they have also put many new procedures and techniques into practice, all of which have the support of the local government health authorities. In addition the department has been authorized by the Ministry of Health to provide training in Clinical Pharmacology as well as being a Standardized Specialist Training Base.

The staff of the department is now composed of 20 persons with a wide distribution of talents; eight have a senior title and seven intermediate titles. In addition there is one with a doctoral tutor title and two with master tutor certification. The department provides a full line of services including diagnosis and treatment of all types of neurological diseases brought to our patients by well trained physicians assisted by an excellent staff and the most modern equipment and medications.

Within this department there are subspecialty centers such as one devoted to the care of patients with Parkinson¡¯s disease. Subspecialty outpatient clinics are also available for the treatment of epilepsy, severe or persistent headaches,even sleep problems.
