The department of gastroenterology offers comprehensive non-surgical care for all problems of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile duct and pancreas. Annually it provides service for over 1300 inpatients and 45,000 out-patients including massive.
gastrointestinal bleeding, acute severe pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis of the liver, cholelithiasis, carcinoma of gastrointestinal tract and liver, bile duct and pancreas,ect. Over 20,000 diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures are performed each year. These procedures include: gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, percutaneous
transhepatic cholangiography, endoscopic sphincterotomy with gallstone extraction,
endoprosthesis for biliary obstruction, polypectomy, endoscopic hemastasis of bleeding ulcers, ligation or sclerotherapy of bleeding varices, esophageal prosthesis, dilation of strictures, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy.
Experts from the US, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and Hong Kong have visited our department, allowing the exchange of ideas and sharing more advanced techniques. In addition, many of the staff members have been sent overseas for training. Our goal continues to be that of providing quality care at the highest level.
